Launching an Event Management Business… How do you get started?
Having launched our own venture this year (an online event directory), I know just how hard it is to get a small business started. Event Management companies usually start small. Talented and driven people from the industry decide to branch out on their own – do things their own way.
The big question is, however, how do you get started? How do you get that allusive first foot in the door and the clients who will let you produce not only one event, but several? How do you do this without a business track record?
Earlier this year we had the pleasure of meeting and working with Memphis Events, a small event management company who launched less than six months ago. Eyob Yesus (founder) has determination and passion in spades and we were delighted to learn recently that his business has secured some great new clients. He is of course ecstatic!
His big win, and what will hopefully kick start his client base, was being announced recently as the official event partner for the Sydney Hills Chamber. The Sydney Chamber host a regular calendar of events that includes networking evenings and breakfasts, corporate luncheons, a yearly summit and social events.
This was a fantastic win and I think a great strategy for Memphis Events. The Sydney Hills Chamber is located in a thriving area of Sydney and, as any Business Chamber does, encourages members to use each other’s services. Memphis Events will not only be exposed to a number of businesses through the Chamber, but these businesses will also experience first-hand Eyob’s event management skills. What better way to showcase your event management skills than have people attend your events? I am positive this move will mean great things for Eyob and his business!
I would love to hear from you – how did you get your Event Management client list kick-started? What strategy did you have in place to secure the first few clients that would eventually open up many more doors?
