With the launch of Memphis Events, our first blog article is the story of how we came to be a part of the Sydney events industry.
I started out working in the music industry. I love music (and still do), and back then I was working as a DJ and organising club events. It wasn’t long before I started to manage concerts, tours and festivals and truly discovered a love and passion for event management.
We took a leap of faith launching Memphis Events in the private and corporate world, and we were determined to offer a fresh approach to engagement, styling and customising the events that we manage. Events are our passion, and as much as that word gets thrown around, we truly live by it. The joy we bring to someone’s day through an event that we have organised is absolutely thrilling. You have to be an event manager to know that feeling. We are adrenalin junkies!
So, where did the name ‘Memphis Events’ come from?
The word ‘Memphis’ in the Ethiopian language Amharic, means ‘Spirit’ or ‘Soul’. Located in the horn of Africa, Ethiopia is known as a very spiritual country. Scientifically, some of the oldest evidence of modern humans has been discovered in Ethiopia, which is widely considered the region for the beginning of what we know to be Homo Sapiens.
Coincidently, the ancient city of Memphis in Egypt was located at a strategic position at the mouth of the Nile Delta. The river Nile is the longest river in the world and stretches from Ethiopia to Egypt, where the God Ptah protected this city of Memphis. The city of Memphis was a business hub. Its principal port, Peru-nefer, harboured a high density of workshops, factories and warehouses that distributed food and merchandise throughout the ancient kingdom. During its golden age, Memphis thrived as a regional centre for commerce, trade, and religion.
The great southwestern city of Memphis in Tennessee is also known for its array of Soul Music. From the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, to the legendary Blues guitarist, B. B. King, this city is full of soulful bars. Memphis is also known for its Southern Comfort food, which is affectionately known by African-Americans as ‘Soul Food’.
We believe that ‘soul’ is the most important element of our company objective. Soul is what lifts the spirit of our events and inspires true joy. Memphis also happens to be the name of our beloved Shar-Pei dog. That’s how much we believe in the importance of soul!
Our passion for events is not something we take lightly. It came from an amazing line of ‘Lifted Spirit and Joy’. We are excited about our new direction in the events industry with the purpose of delivering your company story, product, brand values and culture in a fresh approach and style. Our job is to bring those elements to life by producing engaging and memorable events.
